ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ankita Sikari Sunuwar
Born in 1998 in Lalitpur Nepal. Initially Ankita’s keen interest was in watercolor drawings. Raised by her grandparents, she has always been intrigued to draw Goddesses and Divine energies around the universe, which led her to learn Paubha (Nepali traditional art) from Ram Prakash Shrestha, a paubha artist and a teacher from Kathmandu.  in 2019, Ankita also Discovered her passion for Character design and dedicated several years honing her skills as a character designer. She did her BFA in painting from Lalitkala Campus, Tribhuvan University and is currently pursuing her MFA in painting/drawing from State University Of New York at New Paltz.
 In her painting, her exploration centers in traditional Nepali art practice (paubha) and she aims to represent her practice with a contemporary twist. Through modern materials and style of painting, she emphasizes the importance of preserving artistic heritage while embracing the possibilities of the present.
At the heart of her artistic practice lies a commitment to revive the forgotten ancient Nepali art traditions, bringing them to the forefront of contemporary Nepali art. Her choice of materials includes canvas, wood and the exquisite handmade Nepali paper And digital medium.
 She believes that embracing the traditional paubha motifs, figures within a contemporary framework can result in a powerful fusion of her Nepalese heritage and innovation.
